Help us support local food banks, food pantries and community fridges that serve our neighbors. Whether you live, work, or spend time downtown, there are plenty of ways to get involved!
Host a Collection Site
- Building managers, businesses, or residents can host a collection box in their lobby or common area.
- Email us at info@desmoinesdna.com to sign up.
- We’ll provide signage, donation guidelines, and pickup coordination.
- Hosts are responsible for promoting the drive within their building and monitoring the collection box.
Donate Food
Drop off non-expired canned goods and non-perishables. Items most needed include:
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Oatmeal
- Cereal (whole grain preferred)
- Pasta (dry) and pasta sauce
- Dry goods: rice (boxed, side-dish, instant), beans
- Canned food: vegetables, beans, fruit, meat, soup
- Mac & Cheese / skillet dinners / boxed dinners / side-dishes
- Shelf stable snacks: applesauce, pudding, granola bars, nuts
- Non-expired dairy, eggs (donate directly to community fridges)
- Fresh produce / bread / grains (donate directly to community fridges)

Drop off non-expired canned goods and non-perishables any of the following organizations and residential buildings:
Organizations
- Tupelo Honey (665 Grand Ave, Ste 100): Tupelo will give a free order of biscuits to anyone who donates three cans of non perishable items (or a meal prep box). AND…. If you are a member, whether resident or non resident member of the DNA, you get 20% off your total bill.
- iSpace Environments (215 Tenth St, Ste 150)
- Iowa Taproom (215 E 3rd St)
- El Bait Shop (200 SW 2nd St)

Donate Online
Prefer to give directly? Monetary donations go further because food banks can buy in bulk at wholesale prices, stretching every dollar far beyond what we can purchase individually. Your gift also saves valuable volunteer time by reducing the need to sort and transport one-off food donations.
